Lillis Margaret Clark Brackett, wife of Robert Brackett, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018. Born in Western Springs, Illinois, September 21, 1926, she was the daughter of Ridie Louise Guppey Clark and William Wells Clark.
Lillis graduated from Lyons Township High School in LaGrange Illinois, from Iowa State College with a BS degree in Home Economics, and from Northern Illinois College with an MS degree in Education.
She worked in the Foods Division of Marshall Fields in Chicago, Illinois, then raised four children in Itasca, Illinois, and taught at Lake Park High School in Roselle, Illinois.
Lillis was an enthusiastic gardener with the most beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables in town. She was a certified Master Gardener in both Illinois and North Carolina. After her retirement, she taught English as a Second Language, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and participated in Reading Buddies.
Lillis was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was active in P.E.O. for her entire adult life, serving on several committees and as chapter president. She was a member of the Piscataqua Pioneers and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Lillis is survived by her husband of 69 years, Robert Chase Brackett. In addition, she is survived by her brother, William Clark and wife Barbara; by her four children, Mary Coffin and husband Peter of Presque Isle Maine, Wax Brackett and wife Marie of Friendship Maine, Robert Brackett and wife Debbie of Seattle Washington, and Margaret Hafer and husband Lance of Greenville SC; by four grandchildren, Peter Coffin, Theo Brackett, Chase Brackett, and Rob Brackett; and by one great grandson, Russell William Brackett.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Monday, July 16, 2018 in the Village Hall at Carolina Village, 600 Carolina Village Rd., Hendersonville, NC.
