Lorraine Barber, 86, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at the Elizabeth House after two years of chronic illness. She lived near Hendersonville and was a member of the Fletcher Seventh-Day Adventist Church since moving to this area in 1965.
She was born near Lamar, Colorado and graduated from Campion Academy, a Seventh-Day Adventist boarding school near Boulder, Colorado in 1943. She had lived near Fresno, California for several years before moving to Henderson County. She had worked in the cafeteria at Fletcher Academy and in local nursing homes for about 25 years, retiring about 1990.
Mrs. Barber was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Mary Lucas of Colorado; her husband of 56 years, Lowell Barber of Hendesonville; four of her five children, Eloyce, Weston, Douglas and Corliss; her daughter in-law, Deborah, former wife of her living son, Kent; her son in-law, Daniel Erhard; and four great-grandchildren who died in infancy.
She is survived by her sister, Myrtle Wallington; her son, Kent and his wife Nancy; former son in-law, Larry Paden; two former daughters in-law, Kay and Carol; grandson, Brian Barber and his wife Beth; granddaughters, Kelly Parris, Cindy Worley, Angela Duncan and her husband, Keith and Rachael Paden and two step-grandchildren, Todd Erhard and Tina Hanson. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Shane, Savanah, Dylan, Amber, Charles, Jacob, Levi, Elli, Emma and Luke. Services were held privately.
