Mary Anne Lee, born on July 26, 1933, in New Orleans, LA, peacefully passed away on February 9, 2024, at Elizabeth House in Hendersonville, NC surrounded by her family. She was 90 years old at the time of her death.
Mary Anne spent many years of her life working at St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church in Flat Rock and volunteering at Interfaith Ministries (IAM). In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards at the Elks Club, cooking, gardening, quilting and reading.
Mary Anne was a devout Catholic and member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Mary Anne is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lt. Col. Robert E. Lee “Bobby,” as well as her father, Ralph Thornbury, and mother, Virginia Thornbury.
Her memory will be cherished by her surviving family and friends, including her daughters, Patty Herndon (Robert) of Roswell, GA, and Jennifer Lee of Hendersonville, NC, her sons, Michael Lee (Kimberly) and Tom Lee, both of Hendersonville, NC, her grandchildren, Ryann Lee of Deep River, CT, Kathryn Lee of Chicago, IL, Mason Herndon of Atlanta, GA, and Christian Herndon of Marietta, GA. She is also survived by her cherished and devoted sisters, Carolyn Robertson of Hendersonville, NC, Teresa Ausley of Hendersonville, NC, and Judi Sawyer (Don) of Flat Rock, NC, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Throughout her adult life, Mary Anne had the opportunity to experience different cultures and places, as she was a military wife and lived all over the U.S.A and in Seville, Spain. These experiences enriched her life and broadened her perspective.
Funeral services for Mary Anne will be held as follows: A Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM. The burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation be made in her name to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Mary Anne Lee will forever be remembered for her love for her family and her desire to make a positive impact in her community. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
