Mary M. Reed, 88, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away Friday morning, November 27, 2009 at her home.

Born in Grinnell, IA, she was the daughter of the late John Tyler and Bessie Hughes Reed. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Betty R. Belensky and Alice Whitaker.

She was employed by General Motors Corporation as an administrative assistant for 35 years in Trenton, NJ, before retiring in 1979. While in Trenton, she volunteered at Mercer Hospital.

Before moving to Henderson County in 2001, she had resided in New Smyrna, FL, where she was a member of the Arts Center and a volunteer at Shore Hospital.

She enjoyed traveling and the arts.

She is survived by her loving family, her brother, Gerald Reed and wife, Margaret, of Hendersonville; her sister, Helen Archer of Cape Haze, FL; a number of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews; and many great friends.

A family memorial service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, December 12, 2009 in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Care Partners Hospice Foundation, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813 in memory of Mary Reed.

    I am truly saddened to read of Mary's death. My only relationship with her was during tax time but I very much looked forward to seeing her smiling face each year. She was such a lovely and gracious lady who always took the time to ask about my family when we met. I will miss having her brighten my day. My heartfelt condolences to her family.
