Matthew J. McCarthy, 73, of Hendersonville, NC died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Pardee Memorial Hospital.

Born in the Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Matthew & Julia Connor McCarthy.

He had resided in Lancaster, PA, for ten years before moving to Henderson County. He owned and operated TM Truck Repair over 25 years, the last thirteen in Naples. He was a member of Immaculata Catholic Church.

He was devoted to Kathleen McCarthy for 27 years, the last sixteen as her husband; loving brother to William McCarthy of Manchester, NJ; devoted father to four children from a previous marriage, Raymond, Marty, Carol, and Dyian; and five stepchildren, Christopher of Port St. Lucie, FL; Alfred of Lake George, NY; Sean of Vinton, Iowa; and Casey and Timothy, both of Hendersonville; devoted grandfather to thirteen grandchildren, Karissa, Jessica, Grady, Charlie, Dylan, Alyssa, Ciara, Victoria, Gavin, Destiny, James, Michael, and his ìBestest Buddy,î Trenton; loving uncle to his nieces and nephews; and beloved owner of four legged and winged friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Thursday, May 14, 2009 in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. Pastor Elder Richard Paczkowski will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 PM and 6 ñ 9 PM Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the funeral home. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 PM during the visitation.

    CORRECTIONS TO OBITUARY: Matthew J. McCarthy was the oldest son of the late Matthew and Julia 'Cannon' McCarthy. Matthew was preceded in death by a younger brother, Joseph McCarthy and surviving is his loving brother, William McCarthy of Toms River, New Jersey. Matthew was the father to four dedicated children from his 34-year marriage, Raymond of Ohio, Martin, Carole and Dyan of New Jersey and four wonderful grandchildren Meghan, Raymond, Kenneth and Daniel of New Jersey. Also survived by Cousins in New Jersey and New York. Our love and prayers always.
