Gifts & Memorial Donations

Matthew Klein, 81, of Fletcher passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at the Elizabeth House following a period of declining health. A native of Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Gertrude Klein. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert “Bobbie” Klein. Matthew was fortunate to call many places home over the years – Portsmouth, NH, York, Maine, Waterford, Maine, Charleston, South Carolina and Ocala, Florida, and had settled into his favorite home here in Henderson County for the past six years.

Matt was a Patriot, a Veteran and Proud Marine.   He was an avid supporter of the State of Israel and even volunteered with the IDF later in life.   Professionally, he was a pioneer in the electrical industry, having developed the track lighting and track wiring systems that revolutionized the industry. He was a firm believer that form follows function, never missing an opportunity to improve a process. Matt was a lifelong learner. His love of reading, history and debating never waned. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fly fishing and all that nature has to offer. He loved to travel and especially loved being able to see new things and meet new people. Matthew was generous with his talents and treasures. He never met a stranger and always had a story to share.

Matt was a devoted husband and father with a never-ending sense of humor. He loved his family from the bottom of his heart. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Lois; daughters, Stephanie Burns (Geoffrey), Barrie Feldman and Laura Kaplan (Jeffrey); grandchildren, Julian, Benjamin and Sydney Burns, Jay, Talya and Aaron Feldman, Dani, Jesse and Jillian Kaplan; fraternal twin brother, Gerald Klein (Julia) and several nieces and nephews.

No local services are planned at this time.
