Maxie J. Hayes, 64, of Hendersonville died Saturday morning, February 28, 2009 at Mission Hospitals St. Joseph Campus following a brief illness. Born in Lexington, NC a daughter of the late Delmar and Fannie Money Hayes, she had been a resident of the area since 1969.

She had been a longtime employee of Rockwell (now Arvin Meritor) and for the last eleven years was employed as the office manager for Timberpeg.

Surviving is her daughter Angela Morse and husband Gary of Flat Rock; a son Trey Fritts of Greensboro; two grandchildren Colby and Courtney Morse; a sister Cookie Swing of Lexington; a brother Bruce Hayes of Lexington; a niece Carmen Carrick and a nephew Zack Hayes.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. Rev. Joe Hickman will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park Bldg. 1, Asheville, NC 28801.

    I always looked forward to my phone conversations with Maxie, during the 11 years she worked for Timberpeg. She always brought a ray of sunshine into everyone's day & I will miss speaking & working with her albeit long distance. I was saddened by the loss of such a wonderful person & my heartfelt sympathies go out to her family at this dificult time. May warm memories help to ease the burden of your sadness at such at difficult time.
