Melba “Ruth” Johnson, 88, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.
She was born January 10, 1920, in Middle Grove, New York, to Nina Baugh Menshausen and William Walter Menshausen. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Frederick Charles Johnson, who passed away March 8, 2008, and brother, William Walter Menshausen II.
She graduated from Oneonta Teachers College and taught school in Corinth, Middle Grove, Ballston Spa, Tri-City Jr. Academy, and Rock City Falls, all in New York State.
She was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. After retiring from teaching, she worked for Community Services for the Florida Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, overseeing health screenings throughout the state. She and Fred also enjoyed volunteering for prison ministries.
She leaves her family: her son, Kenneth and wife Kathy Johnson; her daughter, Barbara and husband Robert Borgersen; grandsons, Eric and wife Mary Ann Borgersen; Kurt and wife Lauren Borgersen; and Kevin Borgersen; her sister-in-law, Lillian Menshausen; niece, Kate Dockham; and nephew, Bill Menshausen.
Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.
