Melinda Moffitt Newton, 66, of Flat Rock died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Elizabeth House.

A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Marjorie Moffitt.

Mrs. Newton enjoyed cooking and loved the beach. She was a loving caregiver to her husband, children, and siblings. She was a member of the First Wesleyan Church of Hendersonville.

She is survived by her devoted husband of nine years, Dean Newton of Flat Rock; three sons, Woody Perry and wife, Ashley, Kevin Perry and wife, Christine, and Anthony Perry and wife, Melissa, all of Hendersonville; step-children, Monica Newton Moore and husband, David, of Horse Shoe and Harold Dean, Jr. and wife, Pamela, of Brevard; seven siblings, Donna Moffitt Sharrits and husband, David, of Horse Shoe; Sherry Moffitt Cox and husband, Tracy, of Hendersonville; Chris Moffitt and wife, Gwen, of Hooperís Creek; Dennis Moffitt and wife, Venissa, Jennie Moffitt Stepp and husband, Larry, Tammy Moffitt Griffin and husband, Gerald, and Lisa Renee Moffitt, all of Hendersonville; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Saturday in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with the Revs. Dale Gilbert and Mike Engel officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 ñ 8 PM Friday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
