Mike Holbert, 83 of Hendersonville died Friday, September 11, 2009 at The Elizabeth House. Born in Polk County, he was a son of the late Rev. Josiah and Roxie Ann Johnson Holbert. A US Navy veteran of WWII, he retired from Dupont in 1984 where he was a lab technician for 20 years.

He was a member of Tracy Grove Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Blue Ridge Fire Department.

Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Mary Ellen Holbert; three sons Gene Holbert and wife Jill, John Holbert and Eddie Holbert and wife Teresa all of Hendersonville; one daughter Wanda Ponder and husband Phillip of Dana; four grandsons Jeremiah Ponder and Justin Ponder of Dana and Joseph Holbert and Chris Holbert of Hendersonville; one granddaughter Lacy Ann Holbert of Hendersonville; one soon to be great-grandson Logun; two sisters Ruby Hayes and Ann Stewart; a brother Bill Holbert; and many nieces and nephews.

    I am sorry I couldn't be there with you on Sunday to honor Uncle Mike's life. I will miss him very much, and so will Adri. There was always a feeling of love in the room when Uncle Mike was there. We should all hope to be remembered as fondly as he will be.
