Mildred Bell Mears Cox, 94, of Hendersonville, NC, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008.
She was born in Princess Anne County to Robert John Bell and Sallie Virginia Bonney Bell on December 4, 1913. She was predeceased by Richard Walter Mears, Sr. and William W. Cox, Jr., as well as by a daughter, Leah Ray Mears Shelburne.
She was a former member of Kempsville Baptist Church and later Haygood Methodist Church. A graduate of Old Dominion University, she taught for 25 years in Virginia Beach and retired from Thalia Elementary School in 1980.
Survivors include a son, Richard W. Mears, Jr. and his wife, Wendy Talmage Mears, of Flat Rock, NC; a son-in-law, Robert M. Shelburne of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, David Shelburne and wife, Nancy, of Norfolk, VA; Laura Perkinson and husband, Kevin, of Hilton Head, SC; Karen Lemperis and husband, Dr. John, of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and Jonathan Mears of Raleigh, NC; and stepchildren, William Cox III and wife, Ellen, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Jean Carolyn Bounds and husband, Howard, of Durham, NC.
She leaves behind many dear friends at Haygood Halls in Virginia Beach, VA, Marion Manor in Marion, VA, and Life Care Center in Hendersonville, NC.
