Ida Monetta Lawrence Scott, 91, of Hendersonville, NC, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009.
Born in Elim, SC on June 4, 1918, Monetta was one of 6 children born to Benjamin Ingram Lawrence and Ruth Matthews Lawrence. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Otis Kinloch ìO.K.î Scott.
She is survived by her 2 daughters, Sondra S. Trantham and husband, Jack, and Linda S. Riddle and husband, Sam, all of Hendersonville, NC; five grandchildren, Amanda T. Morgan of Hendersonville, NC, Sam E. Riddle, Jr. of Greenville, SC, M. Scott Riddle of Greensboro, NC, Monetta Ruth T. Collie of Hendersonville, NC, and Andrew B. Riddle, of Hendersonville; and 17 Great Grandchildren.
In 1948, Monetta moved to Hendersonville, NC with her husband and 2 daughters. They became active members of the First Presbyterian Church and later, charter members of Covenant Presbyterian Church. O.K. and Monetta owned and operated Scott Hardware and Four Seasons Gifts from 1956 ñ 1982.
Monetta was the epitome of a true Southern lady ñ always dutiful, strong, gracious, and steadfast. Her love was serving others, whether at home, church, or the business; her joy was cooking, sewing, and the gathering of friends and family. Her life was an example to all, of her love for the Lord our God.
Monetta will be laid to rest in the Lawrence Family Memorial Cemetery in Elim, SC on Saturday, October 31 at 12:00 noon. A memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Hendersonville, NC on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 3 pm. The Reverends Dale H. Vining, Jr. and John C. Neville, Jr. will officiate.
