Patricia Bates Gilbert, 85, of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Pardee Hospital after a short illness. A native of Buncombe County, Patricia lived in Henderson County for seventy-five years. She was the daughter of the late Lena H. and James W. Bates, and the wife of the late Robert Alvin Gilbert who died in 2016. Patricia was also preceded in death by her grandson, Neil Gilbert in 2013. She was a lifelong member of Beulah Baptist Church. Patricia loved painting, gardening, camping, crafts, cooking, and especially loved her family and her church.
Survivors include two sons, Ricky Gilbert and his wife Sally, Mike Gilbert and his wife Jill, all of Hendersonville; five grandsons, Chris (Mandy), Patrick (Sabrina), Austin (Keisha) Ryan, and Reilly Gilbert; six great-grandchildren, Hayden, Annalee, Cameron, Cooper, Autumn, and Kodi Gilbert; brothers-in-law, Ray Gilbert, and his wife, Moeina, Alton Gilbert and his wife Linda, Don Gilbert and his wife Janice; sisters-in-law, Merita Blackwell and her husband Bill, Melba Huggins and her husband Bob, Karen Gilbert Bullman; a number of nieces and nephews; and Patricia’s lifelong friend, Jeanne-Belle Revis of Hendersonville.
A funeral will be at 2:00 pm Friday at Beulah Baptist Church. Pastor Dewey Barnwell, Rev. Tony Gallaway, and Rev. Chris Gilbert will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 pm at the church.
