Pauline ìPollyî Lanning di Santi Waters, 82, of Hendersonville, NC, died Friday morning, May 1, 2009 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock after a short period of declining health.

Polly was born in Hendersonville, NC, to Samuel Newton Lanning and Maggie Drake Lanning. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Alexander A. di Santi, and her second husband, Williford ìMuddyî Waters.

She lived most of her life in Hendersonville, enjoying her children and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She attended Mud Creek Baptist Church and was a member of the Good News Sunday School Class. She worked most of her life as a waitress and then a homemaker.

She is survived by her sister, Mildred Lanning Skidds (Everett) of Hendersonville; children, Anthony Samuel di Santi (Debbie) of Blowing Rock; Beckie di Santi Cagle (Charlie) of Hendersonville; Cathie di Santi Best Rineair (Stephen) of Cincinnati, OH; Christine Waters Ballard (Jeffrey) of Tuxedo; and Kimberly Waters McKibben (Jeffery) of Fletcher; grandchildren, Nikki Best Roll (Stephen), Chad Cagle (Jennifer), Heidi Cagle Knowles (Wesley), Danielle Best Kerans (Shawn), Erin di Santi and Keira McKibben; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her faithful dog, Maggie.

A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Mud Creek Baptist Church. The Reverend Greg Mathis will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the church and, at other times, will be at the home of Charlie and Beckie Cagle. Burial will be private.
