Pauline Robinson Reece died quietly in her sleep on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the Laurels in Hendersonville, North Carolina. She was 99 years old.

Pauline was the daughter of Mollie Lowe Robinson and John Robinson of Doeville, Tennessee, where she grew up. She was the widow of the late Mark Twain Reece of Mountain City, Tennessee.

Pauline was descended from a long line of pioneer families. Her Lowe ancestors include Abraham and Jacob, who are listed among the founders of Johnson County, Tn. in the early 1800ís.

Surviving family include her daughter, Doris Reece Leissing and husband Henry, of Flat Rock, North Carolina; three grandchildren: Heather Anna Bates of Hendersonville, N.C., Christopher Bates, and wife Rocio, of Gresham, Or., and Rebecca Shelley, of Asheville, NC. And seven great-grandchildren: Dylanna Barton, Gabriel Bishop, Annabelle Bishop of Hendersonville, NC and Anneliza, Thomas, Caleb, and Andrew Bates of Gresham, Or.

Pauline attended Doeville schools and graduated from Washington College Academy in Jonesboro, Tn. in 1932. She earned a teaching certificate from East Tennessee State Teacherís College in 1934 and taught at Doeville Elementary, where Mark Reece was the principal.

After their marriage in 1938, Pauline and Mark lived in Doe Valley. She was a homemaker and he taught school and worked in Bristol, Tennessee during WW II. They moved to Shoun Street, in Mountain City in 1948 and lived there until he died in 1984, and she moved to Hendersonville in 1988.

Pauline loved beauty. She played the piano, had a perfect alto voice, and enjoyed raising flowers. She was best known for her poetry, which she often wrote to celebrate special occasions of her friends and family. She adored her family and held to a simple but enduring faith in God. She was baptized in Bethel Baptist Church, Doe Valley, Tn as a child.

Pauline flourished for many years after she came to North Carolina to live closer to her daughter, but after her health declined she was cared for by the Laurels of Hendersonville, and for the past two years, by Four Seasons Hospice.

The family will receive guests at Shuler Funeral Home on Orrís Camp Road in Hendersonville, on Monday evening, from 6 until 8 PM. There will be service in Mountain City, Tennessee at 11:00am on Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with a visitation beginning at 10:00am. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Mountain City, Tennesse.
