Peggy Marie Connor Cartee, 90, of Fletcher, NC, formally from the Johnson City, TN area, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on July 1, 2022, in Durham, NC a Duke Hospice Hock Family Pavilion.
Peggy was born and raised in Henderson County, NC, the daughter of the late Hoover and Inez Cunningham Connor. Preceded in death by her husband, Rev. J.C. Cartee, and sister Lucille Connor Rogers. Left to cherish her memory is her loving daughter, Beth and husband, Bill of Hillsborough, NC and two nieces, Linda Smart of Clayton, NC and Lisa Rogers of LaGrange, NC.
She was a graduate of NC Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and attended Gardner Webb University. She taught the first Licensed Practical Nursing Program of Johnson City School system. She taught Medical Terminology at Steed College for 10 years and was Director of Nursing at Appalachian Christian Village. She retired from Johnson City Medical Center Hospital after 20 years of service.
She was truly an angel on earth. Caring for patients and filling the roll in many capacities as a preacher’s wife in churches in the TN area. Her love for the Lord has shown as a light all through her life with her kindness and compassion to everyone she touched. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church of Johnson City, TN.
Later in life a high school friend, William Boyd Worsham, came back into her life and they enjoyed reminiscing about their past and reconnecting after 62 years of being apart. This gave them both much joy. Special thanks to Boyd’s children for embracing mom and loving her as they did.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:30 pm to 7 pm at Shuler Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of Life, with Rev. Rich Murray officiating at 7 pm. Interment will be at Shepherd Memorial Park, 5045 Asheville Hwy, at 1 pm, Thursday with graveside rites conducted by Pastor Jeff Wilkie and Pastor Wayne Owen.
Special thanks to the staff at Duke Hospice Hock Family Pavilion for the loving care they provided Peggy during the last month of her life.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials can be made in her memory to Duke Hospice Hock Family Pavilion of Durham, NC or with Peggy being devoted to Mission Work, a donation in her memory can be made to a Mission Group of your choice.
