Prue Warner Dupee went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 21, 2017, following a lengthy battle with Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). She was born Prudence Ellen Hunter in Pasadena, California on April 24, 1939, to Marjorie (Marnie) Alieda Hunter (nee Young) and Cartwright Hunter. In 1959 she changed her legal name to Prue Ellen Warner, honoring her stepfather Douglas Warner, of and became a legal resident of the newest state, Hawaii.
On September 7, 1963 Prue “signed on for the cruise” marrying her dreamboat sailor, Ensign David Vickers Dupee (of Chicago, Illinois) in Santa Barbara, California. The “cruise” lasted over 53 years. Together they parented five children, Nani Dupee of Wellington, Florida, David Dupee of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Kimberly Visser of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Kenneth Dupee of Hendersonville, NC and Jinah Yi of Orange County, California.
Prue graduated from the University of Hawaii with a BA in Home Economics and was an accomplished seamstress who made her own wedding dress as well as the dresses for her attendants. She served as the Head of the Dietary Department at The Presbyterian Home in Ackey, Iowa, and as Food Services Administrator, Cook, and Kitchen Services Educator at Cono Christian School of Walker, Iowa where she mothered a host of boarding students who passed through her home.
Prue was a faithful follower of her Savior Jesus the Christ, actively engaging in daily devotions and offering loving support to her family, friends, neighbors, and to the three congregations her husband pastored. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, teacher and pastor’s wife. Prue lived her life with courage, resolution, and love for others to the end, when she underwent experimental cancer treatment, knowing that, even if it did not heal her as she hoped, it would blaze the way for future healing for others.
Prue is survived by her husband David; her sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Judy Lee and Wann Rawles; her nine children, Nani Leilani Dupee, David Douglas and Rachel Dupee, Kimberly Ann and James Visser, Kenneth Bruce and Carolyn Dupee, and Jinah and Sean Yi; her eight grandchildren, Autumn Eunhae Yi, Ethan James Visser, Joshua Yehdahm Yi, Micah David Visser, Tristan Elias Dupee, Torbjorn Rutger Dupee, Eowyn Celenah Dupee, and Tessa Christiana Dupee.
