Richard W. Anderson, 77, of Hendersonville, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Pardee Memorial Hospital.
He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 4, 1934 to Willard and Ruth Ghormley Anderson. He is also preceded in death by a son, Richard Anderson, and older brothers David and William Anderson of St. Louis. Richard married Dorothy Lee Geno of St. Louis in 1954 and in 1959 they moved to Cleveland, Ohio and then to Canton, Ohio in 1961 when he joined the Leonard Agency. He was in the insurance business for over fifty years and retired as Chairman and President of Leonard Insurance Services in 1996. He held the insurance professional designations CPCU (Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter) and ARM (Associate in Risk Management).
Richard was an active member of the Canton, Ohio community and among his positions as president or chairman were Canton Rotary Club, Canton Area Chamber of Commerce, Canton Convention and Visitors Bureau, Canton Area YMCA, and Canton Tomorrow. He was and Advisory Board member of Malone College in Canton and Mt. Union College, Alliance, OH. Richard served as an Ambassador for the Ohio Foundation of Independent College’s and was their Volunteer of the Year in 1992. Among his awards were the YMCA Red Triangle Award, Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, and the Canton Area Chamber’s Community Award of Merit in 1992.
When he and his wife retired they moved to Pompano Beach Florida where they had a residence for many years and in 2000 they moved to Hendersonville. He continued his community service in Hendersonville and was a volunteer at the Visitors Center and was a tour guide at the Carl Sandburg Home. His Collection of short stories “The Little White House” was published in 2010.
Richard is survived by his beloved partner in life for over fifty years, Lee; a daughter Christine Stolz of Columbus, OH; a brother, Gilbert Anderson of Pittsburgh, PA; and a sister, Sara Levins of St. Louis.
His wishes were to meet his maker without family and friends enduring calling hours and a funeral service.
