Riley Jones, 87, of Edneyville, NC, died Friday morning, March 26, 2010 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock after a brief illness.

Born in Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Lattie L. Jones & Pearl Plemmons Jones, and husband of Mary Ellen Clark Jones who died in 1992.

A World War II veteran, he was Seaman First Class on the USS Pittsburgh in the South Pacific. A resident of Henderson County for most of his life, he was a farmer who enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. Riley loved children and was a friend to anyone he met. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his loving family, his son, Ronald L. Jones & wife, Debbie; daughter, Marcia J. Pace and husband, Tom; and companion, Mary Justus, all of Edneyville; grandchildren, Candi (Chris) Hayes, Chris (Kelly) Jones, Cassie (Eric) Hardman, Robert Pace, and Katie (Matt) Connor; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Craig and Joe; two sisters, Billie and Grace; special sister-in-law, Ruby Rector; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Monday, March 29, 2010 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Reverend Gary Brown will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted by Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post 77, Hedrick-Rhodes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5206, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 14. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Forest Lawn Mausoleum Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donorís choice.
