Gifts & Memorial Donations

Robert Alvin Calloway, 80 of East Flat Rock, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 13, 2012 at Hendersonville Health and Rehabilitation. A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was the son of the late Albert and Edith Ward Calloway. He was also preceded in death by his precious wife of 31 years, Margaret Bell Calloway; three brothers, Albert ìJuniorî Calloway, Jerry Calloway and Jimmy Calloway; and a sister Shirley Calloway Pruitt.

He grew up in a large, caring family in Tuxedo. A veteran of the US Army, he was stationed at Fort George G. Meade in Maryland and in Germany. For over 40 years he was a loyal employee of JP Stevens in Tuxedo, and together with his wife Margaret (a registered nurse), they provided a wonderful life for their girls. He was an active member/supporter of the VFW and a courageous lifelong member of the Blue Ridge Volunteer Fire Department. He loved his church and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church East Flat Rock for 50 years.

He is survived by his two daughters, Mary Ann Calloway Baldwin and spouse, and Martha Rose Calloway Gordon and spouse; a granddaughter, Margaret ìOliviaî Baldwin; a grandson ìSamuelî T. Gordon; a brother, Freddie Calloway; and sisters Norma Jean Corn and Betty Blythe, all of the Hendersonville area; a number of precious nieces and nephews, close genuine friends, and his sweet little canine companion, ìMaggieî.

Robertís family will be eternally grateful for the care and love that he and the entire family received at Hendersonville Health and Rehab during his health challenges over the past year. Special thanks to his precious roommate, Mr. Wilson.

    Leslie Keener Sabo says:
MaryAnn and Martha Rose, I am so sorry for your loss. I do understand, and time is the only thing that will ease the pain. I saw a butterfly today and a thought came to me. Don't think of your Daddy as gone. Try to think of him as in a different form. From the earthly body to a "butterfly" in heaven. Still with you in spirit, in your hearts always. You will miss him but try to be happy FOR HIM. He is better than he has been in years. He loved you both very much. And that love will be with you forever. take care, much love, Les

My condolences to the family. I remember Robert from years ago in Tuxedo always smiling, laughing and friendly. That must be a family trait and that's special.

    Cheryl (Pate) Fisher Greene says:
I was so very sorry to hear of the loss of your father. I remember both of your parents from church and I never heard a harsh or unkind word said about either of them. They were both kind, soft spoken, giving, and wonderful people. I know you will miss your father so much. We can rejoice in knowing that your parents are reunited again. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. Cheryl
