Gifts & Memorial Donations

Robert E. Doty, 68, of Hendersonville, NC died Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Mission Hospital in Asheville after fighting a brave battle with kidney disease followed by a kidney transplant. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him for his wonderful smile, his courage, quick wit and humor. He was proud of his development of the first Western North Carolina Kidney Support Group and his ability to help others.

He is survived by his adoring wife Sharon of 18? years; a daughter Donna and son-in-law Peter Smith and grandchildren, Alyssa and Joshua of Hilton, NY; a son, David of Kill Buck, NY; brother, William (Dilli) A. Doty of Holley, NY; two sisters, Joan Curtis of Omaha, NE and Ruth (Duane) Berns of Zephyrhills, FL; three cousins; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Bob and Sharon were married June 1, 1991 in Fairport, NY and were fortunate to have traveled extensively throughout the country and Canada in their motor home, enjoying each other and the many adventures they encountered and people they met along the way.

Born in Rochester, NY, he graduated from Albion High School and the State University of Brockport and also attended Houghton College for a year. He was employed by Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester for 30 years, retiring as supervisor of a computer group December 1, 1991.

He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Elsie Doty and wife, Janet Marie Carlson.

Bob was very active in scouting, receiving the God and Country award as well as the distinction of Eagle Scout.

He was active in the Rochester Numismatic Society for almost 36 years where he was proud to be president from July 1980 to June 1981. He also worked on membership, was a member of the board of directors as well as secretary and vice-president of that association. For his hours of work preparing the many volumes of association meeting minutes and history, he was presented with a certificate for outstanding service and was still historian of the RNA upon his death.

Bob also served as president of the (Studebaker) Avanti Club of Florida, John Epstein Chapter, from November 1994 to October 1995 and as newsletter editor and membership director.

    Terry Bassett says:
Bob was meant to come into our lives. He educated us so much with the information we needed to know and learn through the support groups we attended. It was an honor to know him and his wonderful wife Sharon. He will be truly missed. The world has lost a great man. In God's love. Terry and Kelly Bassett.
