Robert William Chapman

Robert W. Chapman, 79, went home to the Lord on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Elizabeth House after a courageous battle with cancer.

Bob was born on November 16, 1931 in Buffalo, NY and relocated to Hendersonville in 1978. He was the son of the late Robert N. Chapman and Marion E. Chapman. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Westinghouse for 42 years both in Cheektowaga, NY and Arden, NC, retiring in 1994. Bob was an active member of Balfour United Methodist Church having served as a choir member, treasurer for United Methodist Men, and a prestigious member of the ìBuzzards.î Bob loved the outdoors and after retirement he volunteered with the National Park Service, building and maintaining hiking trails. In later years, he enjoyed golfing and bowling.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Carol M. Chapman (Wifie); sons, Robert A. Chapman and his wife Tina of Winston Salem, NC, and Kenneth W. Chapman and his wife Jacqueline of Winston Salem, NC; daughter Kimberly E. Cobb and her husband Charles of Rockingham, NC; grandchildren, Rebecca Chapman, Kenneth (KC) Chapman, Joshua Chapman, Jordan Chapman, Megan Chapman, Emilie Cobb and Ana (Mara) Cobb; sister-in-law, Evelyn Pfefferle and her husband Frederick of Bloomfield, NJ; niece, Carol Bender and her husband Robert of Nutley, NJ; nephew, Dr. Paul Pfefferle and his wife Laura of Nutley, NJ; grandnephews, Jonathan Bender and Scott Pfefferle, and grandniece, Carolyn Bender.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Balfour United Methodist Church Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations be made to Balfour United Methodist Church Backpack Program, 2567 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville, NC 28791, or to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.

    Carol and family. Bob had a great contagious smile. I will miss him. He put up a strong fight and always said he was " OK" Truly a strong man. And Carol, you took great care of him and was there for him when he needed you most.Now take good care of yourself as Bob would have wanted.
