Robert Young Heimsath

Robert Young Heimsath of Hendersonville, NC, formerly of Woodville and Elyria, Ohio, passed away on August 20, 2008 at the Life Care Center. He was preceded in death by his son, William J. Heimsath.

He was born on June 17, 1915 in Birmingham, Ohio, the son of Lillian Young and Louis Christian Heimsath. He graduated from Elyria High School in 1931 and attended Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. A World War II veteran, he served in the US Navy Radar Operations School at Virginia Beach, VA.

After the war, he and his wife Katherine (Kay) moved to Woodville, Ohio. He retired as Personnel Director, after working 33 years in the Industrial Relations Department of Brush Wellman Engineered Materials. He was a long time member of the Woodville United Methodist Church.

Bob and Kay moved to Hendersonville, NC in 1982. He was an active volunteer for 14 years with the AARP Tax Aide. Bob enjoyed a challenging game of bridge and Kayís cherry pie (!!) and loved nothing more than spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Kay, of Hendersonville; daughters Robin Townsend

(Sam) and Kim Heimsath (Bruce Garland); daughter-in-law Rebecca Kay

Heimsath; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He will be remembered at a family memorial service to celebrate his life.
