Ronald “Flash” Dale Gordon, 84, of Flat Rock, North Carolina, passed away peacefully with his wife, Sue, by his side on July 2, 2017. Ron was born on September 30, 1932, in San Pedro, California. He worked as an electronics engineer and IT manager, having graduated from General Motors Institute in 1955, and shared his knowledge in the field to publish two books on product quality assurance. He was an avid reader and writer, writing not only about professional matters but also about his family and his work in search and rescue. Ron was always active, loving hiking, tennis, golf, and boating. He was a HAM Radio Operator for many years, EMT certified and actively involved in search and rescue in the Yavapai Jeep Posse in Arizona, and a Deputy Sheriff in Lincoln County, New Mexico. He especially loved any way to bring technology to outdoor pursuits, becoming a geocacher early in the development of that sport. With his first wife, Janis Arlene Shultz Gordon (dec., 2011), Ron used his musical talents on the accordion to form a duo, “The Flashbacks,” and supported the arts through funding a musical scholarship. He called Sharon, Massachusetts, where he served on the Lake Management Committee, his home for over twenty years and loved living and recreating in Arizona and New Mexico. He spent his final years in Flat Rock, North Carolina, with his second wife, Susanne Jolly Gordon, where they enjoyed golfing and motoring in his Mini Cooper. There, he continued to give back to the community, serving as a volunteer on the Kenmure Architectural Board and as a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Ron is survived by his wife, Sue; his four children, Sharon Mensing, Shelley Glassman, Scott Gordon, and Shawna Litman; his eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and his brother, Leland Edward Gordon. No services will be held per Ron’s request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Henderson County Meals on Wheels: http://coahc.org/meals-on-wheels/.
