Ronald T. Johnston, 91, of Hendersonville, NC passed away early Wednesday morning, December 19, 2018, after an extended illness.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on Wednesday, February 9, 1927, Ron was the son of the late Walter and Isabella (Morrison) Johnston.  He is also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Michael Baker.  On October 9, 1954 in Buffalo, NY, he married his loving wife of 64 years, the former Joan Kohler.

Ron’s parents, both from Scotland, settled in Teaneck, NJ where he was raised and went to Teaneck High School. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1944 and served his country honorably for two years.  A graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology, he earned Tau Beta Pi high honors in Mechanical Engineering.

An electrical engineer by trade, Ron was employed by Westinghouse in Buffalo, NY from 1951 to 1955.  He worked at Buffalo Electric where he ultimately became President of the company. Upon retirement, Ron continued working for Rich Products in Buffalo for several years. Throughout his forty-year career, Ron and Joan lived in Orchard Park, NY.  He was active in creating the first Little League in Orchard Park.  He and was also a Mason and a member of Hendersonville First United Methodist Church.

Ron’s first love was to his wife and Children.  He was a fabulous husband who represented kindness in everything he did. He was adored by his children and best remembered as the ‘ultimate family man’.  Described as totally unselfish, Ron’s zest for his family and his love for his Springer Spaniel dogs were evident throughout his life.  He was never without his dogs.

In addition to his wife, he leaves behind to cherish his memory four devoted children, Ronald Jr. and his wife, Eileen, of Cincinnati; Richard Scott and his wife, Karen, of Pasadena; Amy Jo Baker of Charleston and Jennifer Ann and her husband, Steve Humphreys, also of Charleston; and twelve delightful grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be announced at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mr. Johnston to the donor’s choice.

Ron will be deeply missed his loving family and his many dear friends.  May God grant him eternal rest.
