Ruby Marie Almert, 82, of Flat Rock, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Hendersonville after a long battle with Alzheimerís disease. Born in Forest City, IA, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Fox and Florence (Fisk) Fox. She was a former resident of Allendale, NJ, Carrollton, TX and Pensacola, FL before moving to Flat Rock in 1997. She was a graduate of Waldorf Junior College in Forest City, IA, majoring in instrumental music. She taught piano in her home for 45 years, and also enjoyed participating in two-piano recitals. She was an active member of St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church, and sang in the choir. Although taking up the game late in life, she was an avid golfer, and was a member of the ladiesí 9-hole group at Kenmure Country Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three sisters, Phyllis, Ardis and Norma.

She is survived by her loving husband, John, with whom she shared 32 of the happiest years of her life; daughter Phyllis Wolfe and husband, Gary, of Morgan UT; daughter Lynn Whealan and husband, Jack, of Mills River; daughter Karen Schmidt and husband, Greg, of Hillsborough, NJ; son Dan Froyland and wife, Tracy, of Tucson, AZ; son Michael Almert and wife, Lisa, of Indianapolis, IN; twelve grandchildren: Kristin, Janis, Brad, Jeremiah, Casey, Justin, Chloe, Jenna, Alyssa, Brian, Jack and Emma.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 19,2012 at St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church. Rev. John Morton will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westin Woods Elder Park or to Sunnybrook Assisted Living, both at 306 Spring St. Hendersonville, NC 28739.

    I AM TRACY FROYLAND'S MOTHER AND DAN FROYLAND'S MOTHER IN LAW. I MET RUBY & JOHN WHEN TRACY & DAN WERE MARRIED AND I REMEMBER THAT SHE PLAYED THE PIANO AT THERE WEDDING. THEY WOULD COME TO TUCSON AZ TO VISIT THE KIDS AND PLAY GOLF. WE VISITED MANY TIMES WHEN I ALSO WOULD VISIT BEFORE RETIRING HERE 6 YRS AGO. SHE LOVED TO COOK AND SPEND TIME WITH DAN AND TRACY AND LOVED TELLING STORIES ABOUT DAN WHEN HE WAS A LITTLE BOY. SHE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL OF US AND JOHN MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME. SHE IS ABLE TO REST NOW, AND HAS LEFT YOU WITH MEMORIES TO HELP EASE THE PAIN.
