Ruth E. Lawter, 94, of Saluda died Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.

A native and lifelong resident of Saluda, she was the daughter of the late Herbert E. and Maude L. Pace. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Boyd H. Lawter who died in 1977.

Ruth, a 1939 graduate of Saluda High School, was employed by Adams Millis Hosiery Mill and then by GE where she worked for 30+ years and never missed a day of work. At the age of 70, Ruth returned to Blue Ridge Community College and earned her CNA. She worked at Autumn Care in Saluda until she retired and then did volunteer work there. She was a member of Hendersonville First Baptist Church.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth L. Justus and her husband, Sonny and Tona L. Lawter, all of Saluda; grandchildren, Kenneth B. Justus and Jason T. Justus, both of Saluda, and Rodney M. Justus of Green Creek; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Hendersonville First Baptist Church. Rev. Wally Shamburger willofficiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
