Gifts & Memorial Donations

Stephen Dale Wheelon, 51, of Hendersonville, NC, died Tuesday morning, April 1, 2008 at his residence.

A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was the son of the late James Winslow and Evelyn Rhymer Wheelon.

Well-known as the “Drywall Man,” Steve was a drywall contractor for 33 years. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed basketball, and dearly treasured time with his wife and daughters. He was a member of Mud Creek Baptist Church.

The family would like to acknowledge the contributions of Hank Asher. Without his generosity, Steve would not have been able to pursue extensive medical treatments.

The family will be at the home of Jan and Allan Overgaard on Highland Golf Drive.

My deepest condolences to Steve's family. Though, unfortunately, we did not spend time together during our adult years we had some good times together growing up. I have some great memories which I'll always cherish. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

    Kevin Young says:
I will miss Steve. He took me under his wing when I was a Sophomore in High School while playing basketball for the late great Jim Pardue. He helped me become the player I was and the man I am. He and my late father often worked on the same building projectc, Steve installing drywall my dad finishing concrete. To Brenda and the rest of the family he can rest now. I wish I could attend the service but I now reside out of state. My thoughts and prayers are with you Will all due respect Kevin Young, Cortland, New York

Steve and I played on the HCCC pony league baseball team together around 1970. He was a great guy and a heck of a baseball player too. I have fond remembrances of him and he will be sorely missed. God bless him and his family.
