Thomasine Rowell Snead

Thomasine Rowell Snead “Thommy”,76, a resident of Hendersonville, North Carolina, passed away in her Horse Shoe residence on July 12, 2022.

Thommy was born to Hoyt and Alice Rowell, in Hampton VA, on November 14, 1945. Following graduation from Newport News High School in 1964 she enrolled at The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree, majoring in English and History in 1968.

After marrying her high school sweetheart, Charlie Snead, she taught world history at Ferguson High School in Newport News until her husband took an administrative position in Deltaville, VA. Following three wonderful years living on the Chesapeake Bay and the adoption of Bethany, her family moved to Roanoke Rapids N.C. and lived there for 23 years where she gave birth to Laura. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church, Roanoke Rapids, as pianist and Sunday School leader. Her family then relocated to Hendersonville, NC. where she brought her teaching and musical talents to First Presbyterian Church, Hendersonville.

Thommy loved to read mystery novels, play her piano, and spend time with her grandsons Sam and Liam French whom she adored. She wore out many pairs of athletic shoes on the streets of Tamarac walking with her dear friend Norma and husband Charlie.

It was her lifetime commitment that all are created equally in God’s image and equally loved by Him.

She is survived by her husband Charles G. Snead, daughters Bethany Denise Snead and Laura Snead French, brother Evander “Van” Rowell, son-in-law David French and her pride and joy grandsons, Samuel Charles and Liam Gabriel French.

At a later time she will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Hendersonville. In place of flowers the family suggests donations to the Four Seasons Hospice that so lovingly cared for her and the family in her final days.
