Velda Rhodes Brown, 89, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the Elizabeth House. She was born and raised in Henderson County, and was a Sunday School teacher for sixty years at Refuge Baptist Church.

She was a daughter of the late Harley B. and Lexine Merrell Rhodes. She was also preceded in by her husband, Garland A. Brown; brothers, Lloyd, Luther, Harley Junior, and Frank Rhodes; sisters, Marie Hyder, Alice Reed, and Marlene Conner.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughters, Beverly Nichols and husband Phillip, and LaRue Laughter and husband Jerry; son, Brian Brown and wife Nadine; grandchildren, Bradley Schnyder, Kim Hill, David Laughter, Mitzi Hill, and Michael Brown; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Trenton, Hunter, Chelsie, Kye, and Brynna; sister, Mildred Grasso; and brother, Marvin Rhodes and wife Barbara.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 5, 2012 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of LaRue and Jerry Laughter on Pace Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
