Virgil D. Allen, 73 of Hendersonville, died Monday, August 12, 2013 at LifeCare Center. A son of the late Samuel D. and Naomi Young Allen, he was born in Springville, Tennessee where he spent his childhood. He lived for many years in Michigan and Florida before moving to Hendersonville in 1974.

Along with his son, he owned and operated Allen Builders in Hendersonville for over 40 years.

He was a member of Fletcher Seventh-day Adventist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Stanley Allen, Annie Allen Wade, Jessie Allen Collins, Eugene Allen, and Roberta Allen Norwood.

Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Marcia Jones Allen; one son Greg D. Allen of Hendersonville; three grandchildren Heather Bass of Portland, Tenn., Stephanie Allen Coon of Hendersonville, and Anthony J. Allen of Hendersonville; three great grandchildren Alex Coon of Hendersonville, Alexis R. Bass of Portland, Tenn. and Peyton Faulk of Portland, Tenn.; three brothers Clarence Allen and wife Lois of Longwood, Fla., Emmett Allen and wife Carolyn of Apopka, Fla., and Fred Allen and wife Linda of Moore Haven, Fla.; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Linda Ekkens of Longwood, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 16 at Hendersonville Seventh-day Adventist Church. Pastor Ivan Blake will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8:30pm Thursday at Shuler Funeral Home.
