Virginia Ann Simek

Virginia Ann “Dotsy” Simek, 81, of Hendersonville, NC died Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Carolina Village. Virginia was born in Nekoosa, WI to the late James and Barbara (Weber) Schroepfer on August 25, 1934. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; her sisters, Beatrice Hasenhorl and Lucille Bredl, and her brother, James Schroepfer. She attended Sacred Heart grade school and Alexander High school in Nekoosa. In 1953 she married Herbert Simek and together they raised six children.

She worked for Johnson Hills / Kline’s department store and ran a family business Beach View Resort in Wisconsin Rapids with her husband. In 1998 they relocated to Hendersonville, NC. Throughout her time in Hendersonville, Dotsy cultivated her love of the outdoors and was an avid hiker who was active in several hiking groups. She developed a wide circle of friends and was a Senior Friendships member. For thirteen years she volunteered at the local YMCA. Her other volunteer activities included the Interfaith Assistance Ministry and she served as an usher at the Flat Rock Playhouse. As a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish she participated in the Women’s Guild and served in Rose’s Ministry. Dotsy remained a committed Green Bay Packers fan and avid traveler.

She is survived by her three sons, Michael Simek, Colorado Springs, CO, Alan (Jean) Simek, Pinellas Park, FL, William (Aimee) Simek, Menomonee Falls, WI; three daughters, Mary Albertson (Donald Swetlik), Prescott, AZ, Nancy (Mark) Misch, LaCrosse, WI, Sally (Ron) Lunt, Prescott Valley, AZ; 12 Grandchildren, Leif Albertson, Matt Simek, Marissa Simek, Nicole Hands, Bridget Misch, Lisa Misch, Erin Lunt, Jared Lunt, David Simek, Caleb Miller, Kendra Simek and Willa Simek; one great grandson, Atlas Albertson; sisters, Doris Haenel and Susan (George) Bartels and one brother, Robert Schroepfer.

A mass of the resurrection service will be held at 3 pm on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. A reception will follow at the church.
