William A. (Bill) Jaggard, 91, formerly of Altoona, PA, died Saturday, August 30, 2008 in Hendersonville where he and his wife have been living since 2006.

He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Edwin W. and Margaret (Baird) Jaggard. Married to Miriam R. Reed, they celebrated their 70th anniversary on June 4 of this year.

A 1934 graduate of Altoona High School, Mr. Jaggardís first jobs included that of farm hand, coal miner, Armour & Company employee, and signalman and inspector for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Middle Division.

Retiring in 1977 as Director of Merchandising after 35 years of service with the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, Mr. Jaggard became a reputable clock and watchmaker. Known as ìThe Clock Doctor,î he was a member of the American Watchmakers Institute, Pennsylvania Watchmakers Association and The Watchmakers Guild.

A man who loved his God, he was a member of the Altoona Bible Church and, since moving to North Carolina, has been an associate member of First Baptist Church, Hendersonville.

Mr. Jaggard is survived by his wife, his daughter, Trisha Keyes of Brevard, NC, and granddaughter Holly Graff of Bowen Island, BC, Canada. A grandson, Andrew, died in 1989.

Viewing will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the Altoona Bible Church, in Altoona, PA; it will be followed immediately by a funeral service, with procession and interment at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.
