William “Bill” Gordon Bradley, 77, native and lifelong resident of Mills River died at his home Monday March 26 after a period of declining health. He was the son of the late John Gordon Bradley and Kathleen Moore Bradley. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law David Blackburn. Bill was a professional land surveyor for 53 years, registered in both North and South Carolina and owned Bradley’s Land Surveying for 35 years. He had a passion for farming and was an expert gardener. Growing Gladiolus was a family tradition that he loved and continued. He proudly served in the Army as part of the 3rd Battalion 84th Field Artillery Regiment where he began his surveying career as part of the Pershing missile program at Fort Sill Oklahoma and Heilbronn Germany. He attended Mars Hill College. He was a member of the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce, NC Society of Surveyors, life member of the Hendersonville Elks club. He played several years in the church softball league for Mills River Presbyterian Church as well as coaching and refereeing Elementary school basketball for many years. He was a faithful attendee of both the Sunbelt Agricultural Expo in Moultrie GA and Mule Day in Calvary, GA for the past 35 years.
He is survived by a daughter Amy Stewart and her husband Jud of Mills River and a son George Bradley and his wife Hannah of Charleston, SC as well as 3 grandchildren, Katie Highsmith (Jonathan), William Stewart of Mills River, and William Jake Bradley of Charleston, SC, the mother of his children Donna Beddingfield Bradley of Mills River , sister Jean Blackburn of Chattanooga TN, Linda Owen (Dan) of Mills River, brother Don Bradley (Judy) of Mills River, and many nieces and nephews and .
Visitation will be Thursday night from 6-8p at Shuler Funeral Home and a graveside service will be held on Friday March 30, at 11 am at Whitaker-Moore Cemetery in Mills River. Rev. Lewis Staton will officiate. The family will be at his residence at other times.
