William R. Sullivan, 87, of Hendersonville passed away Wednesday morning, March 28, 2012 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC.

Born in New York City, NY, he was the son of the late William R. and Hazel M. Sullivan. He was also preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his children, Helen G. Sullivan and by his brother, Robert Sullivan.

Proud of being a World War II veteran, he served in the US Army Air Corps as Second Lieutenant. He was a navigator and flew 35 combat missions over Germany. In 1949, Mr. Sullivan graduated from Manhattan College in New York City with a BSCE degree in Civil Engineering and spent his career as a professional civil engineer in construction, working throughout the country before retiring in 1993. He was an avid golfer and loved dancing to Big Band music and cheering for Notre Dame.

Mr. Sullivan is survived by his loving wife, Georgia Lynch Sullivan of Hendersonville; children, William R. Sullivan of Seattle, WA, and Deborah Krysty and husband, Dave, of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Brianna, William, and Caitlin Sullivan and Daniel Krysty; sisters, Edna Humphries of California and Dorothy DePugh of New Jersey; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Saturday, March 31 in Our Lady of the Angels Chapel at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Father Andrew will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the St. Francis Hall of the church. Interment will take place at the Nashville National Cemetery in Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731, or to Immaculata Catholic School, 711 N. Buncombe Street, Hendersonville, NC 28791.
