Wilma Joyce Lewis Wilkie, 70, of the Big Willow Community of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord Thursday, November 29, 2018.

A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, she was the daughter of Alta Morgan Lewis of Zirconia and the late Samuel Lewis who died in 1978. Wilma was the granddaughter of the late Rev. William Brice Morgan and Minnie S. Morgan.
She was employed with Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors for twelve years and Groce Funeral Home for three years. Wilma was a secretary to Monroe Redden, Jr. for a number of years as well as other local businesses in the Hendersonville area. She taught Sunday School at several churches in our area during her lifetime. She was a volunteer for Hospice for five years when it was first organized doing secretarial work. She was also on the Board of Directors for the Widowed Persons Organization of Henderson County when it was first organized. She volunteered at Etowah Elementary, teaching computer in Mrs. Shirley Robinson’s fourth grade class for two years, and also helped Mrs. Robinson for a number of years doing crafts at Christmas time for her kids. Wilma was also a grade mother at Etowah while her daughter was a student there.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Carroll Fred Wilkie; daughter, Dana W. Hardin and husband, Dwayne; sisters, Anita L. Guilkey (Steve) and Katie L. Arrington (Joe); brothers, Robert Keith Lewis (Joetta) and Kenneth L. Lewis (Dollie); and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews; sister in law, Ethelyne Young, brother and sister in law, Alton Wilkie (Pat), and Sylvene McDowell.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Monday, December 3, 2018 in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Sunday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
