Ryan is a native of Henderson County and a graduate of East Henderson High School.

He attended Western Carolina University and is a graduate of Gupton-Jones College, Atlanta, with an associate of science degree in funeral service. He was the recipient of the Daniel E. Buchanan Award for outstanding service to the honorary fraternity, Pi Sigma Sta.  Ryan has been serving the families of his hometown for over 20 years.
